The battle to be crowned Sandwich Designer of the Year 2017 moves into its semi-final stage.
Stewart Parker, BH Live’s Group Executive Head Chef for some of the UK’s leading leisure, entertainment and event venues across the south, including Bournemouth International Centre, is one of just nine contestants in the south-west semi-final.
Judges chose Stewart’s recipes from around 300 entries to the competition run by British Sandwich and Food to Go Association.
All shortlisted entrants will be competing in six categories for their chance to proceed to the Grand Final, ahead of British Sandwich Week in May.
British Sandwich and Food to Go Association’s Director, Jim Winship, said: “The South West semi-final is a true mirror on the industry with artisanal independents, catering companies and large scale manufacturers going head to head. It’s fascinating to see how the styles differ so greatly and how the interpretation of a great British classic varies.”
Stewart’s shortlisted entries are called Lucky Ducky, Pastsalmi Bagel, Hunted Chicken and Focaccia Later – and are all aimed the café grab and go market.
“I am delighted to be celebrating some of our region’s delicious produce by crafting it into hand-held snacks to be eaten on the go, adds Stewart Parker. “These particular dishes are aimed at people who are on the move and wanting more than just a filling bite to eat – they want to satisfy their craving for something deliciously tasty, nutritious and unexpected – with a mouth-watering pop of spice, pickle and sweetness my entries certainly deliver that, and more, in abundance.”
The south-west semi-final will take place on Thursday 16 March, at 10.30am, at Futura Foods UK Ltd, The Priory, Long Street, Dursley, Glos GL11 4HR.
